Halfway Creek Bridge - Bungendore Sporting Complex

In 2024, Reliance Engineering were engaged by Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council to provide engineering and project superintendency services throughout the stages of project delivery for the bridge construction. The detailed engineering design was completed by Fairlight Consulting Engineers.

To support the development of the Bungendore Sports Complex, an InQuik modular bridge was selected by Council. The Bungendore Sporting Complex will feature sporting fields, change rooms, public amenities, carparks, main facility pavilion building and an aquatic centre.

The project consisted of a single span concrete bridge inclusive of a pedestrian path, spanning 12m in total over Halfway Creek. The efficient and lightweight design meant small cranes could be utilised, avoiding the cost of constructing large crane pads. The bridge design system allowed for shortened construction times as minimal formwork and steel fabrication was required on site as the modular bridge units were delivered prefabricated. The seamless design provided greater quality control, ensuring precise steel placement and clearances to satisfy the structural requirements. The construction procedure minimised environmental impacts as no dredging was required within Halfway Creek.

The project was funded by the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to provide access to the community sporting complex from Molonglo Street.

The project was successfully completed by HD Civil Pty Ltd and commissioned for opening in August 2024.
