Bungonia Road Pavement Rehabilitation

Between 2020 and 2023, Bungonia Road experienced major flooding on several occasions, inundating the pavement surface. The flooding events resulted in the deterioration of the underlying pavement layers, causing significant distress to the surface pavement.

In June 2022, Goulburn Mulwaree Council undertook geotechnical investigation to assist with the proposed pavement rehabilitation works along a 650m section of Bungonia Road. The project was jointly funded under Council’s Capital Works Program and the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangement (DRFA).

Reliance Engineering Services were engaged by Goulburn Mulwaree Council to assist in the stages project development and delivery.

 The scope of works included:

  • Stormwater drainage repairs

  • 650m of insitu stabilisation along Bungonia Road to improve the structural properties of the existing pavement course

  • Placement of structural asphalt layer on the western road approach of Lansdowne Bridge

  • Bitumen sealing and delineation.

Reliance Engineering provided the following services to Council:

  • Review of geotechnical investigation report to determine a suitable cost-effective solution for rehabilitating Bungonia Road

  • Tender preparation and evaluation

  • Contract Administration

  • Project Management and Superintendency

  • Monitoring and enforcing Contractor compliance

To provide cost saving opportunities for Council, several contractors were engaged from Council’s existing panel contracts. Engaging several contractors increased the risks for potential conflicts, delays and variations however, through effective contractual conditions and communication processes, the project was successful completed and commissioned for opening in December 2024.
